Russell Cree, DPT, CSCS
Russell works as Upper Echelon Fitness a cycling coach, head exercise physiologist, director of bike fitting, and as a Physical Therapist. Russell spent his formidable years in Salem and Bend, Oregon. His love of human-propelled two-wheeled machines started early, when he received his first BMX bike for Christmas. From then on, it was all bikes, all the time. Russell did his first mountain bike race in 1994 at the HooDoo ski area. This quickly progressed into a full-time habit, and Russell was a regular on the OBRA racing scene before he graduated high school. Mountain biking quickly led to road racing, where Russell found his true passion. Of course, growing up in Oregon, he has done his share of cyclocross dating back to Cross Crusades in 1995. Eventually, with hard work, focused training, Russell earned a category 1 license on the road and semi-pro license for mountain biking. Russell has spent the past 6 years managing the elite team for Broadmark Capital/Hagens Berman cycling team, before creating the Upper Echelon Fitness team. Russell began coaching in 1998, while attending Northern Arizona University, and has worked with recreational athletes as well as National Champions. He has been working with athletes ever since. Russell has always been enthralled with how the human body works and adapts to imposed demands, and he began studying anatomy and physiology in college. This led to an undergraduate degree in Exercise Science and Chemistry in 2001. Following undergrad, Russell studied Physical therapy at the University of Wisconsin and Temple University for his Masters and Doctorate degrees. All the time, knowing that this knowledge would be used to help endurance athletes enhance their performance and decrease injury. Bike Fitting is especially important to Russell and he has developed the CONNECT Bike Fitting technique, which he employs at Upper Echelon Fitness. Russell is available for coaching, exercise physiology testing, bike fitting, and physical therapy and works with all levels of clients. Email Russell Cree
